Reversible Fish

Summary: The symbolism, process, and planning of this artwork.
Right-side-Up

Meaning & Symbolism: Everyone sees things differently and from their own frame of reference. Beauty is in eye of the something something.
It’s all about perspective.
From jellyfish to betta to snake to chameleon, this piece has been many different things before settling on a fish. But even then, I think this piece can be seen from any angle and change the composition of the piece, and with it, it’s subject. It’s an interesting illusion.
Upside-Down
My husband and I disagree on which side is right-side-up. I intended the piece to be seen like the first image, but my husband things it looks better in reverse. What do you think?

Progress Notes
- 06/13/26 - The scribbles made me think of a jelly fish. I’m going to turn it into a jellyfish.
- It’s almost a jellyfish, but what’s off about it?
- My husband saw an eye. I was able to make the eye look cool and the whole thing became a fish. Ok then. Let’s make it a fish.
- Husband and I can’t decide which way is right-side-up.
Completion Notes
- 06/14/26 - I’ve chosen which side I like better and it’s the opposite of what husband likes, but that’s ok. The audience get’s to decide which way they like better.
- Out of all my pieces, this one looks the most like graffiti. And I LOVE that. These art supplies against this paper works so well to make graffiti marks. The neon in the background is super cool. I really like the aesthetics of this piece.
