Chromatic Fusion
Chromatic Fusion

The What
This is a technique where I use both wax-based pencils (i.e., Prismacolor Premier) and oil-based pencils (like Faber-Castell Polychromos) together for their different strengths.
The Why
I have both types of pencils and I find that they both work for different things. I love the saturation of Prismacolor but the point and precision of Polychromos is awesome (and they are very saturated too). I find that I have an easier time blending Prismacolor.
In my indecision, I tend to just use both. Though Twisted will give me a chance to try out each individually and together.
The How
- I tend to use the Prismacolor to give rich color and smooth gradients.
- I tend to use the Polychromos to do crisp linework and edging.
- I will also just use them based on color and don’t really differentiate unless it’s for a specific reason above.
