Reflection
Meaning: We’re made of many fractured pieces overlapping to form a whole. We are all fragile but colorful.
Confusing shatter…
I really like how you can still see the various layers. The black and white version came out nice and it’s trippy, calling the eye to try and find the pattern.

0.6in art tape on page to make random shapes. I used about 9 strips of tape. I sketched out the shapes made. I repeated this process with a second layer of tape in a different pattern. End result looks like shattered glass.
Process Notes
✵ Steps ✵
Planning Notes
- This piece I made used tape to create the shapes. I outlined the shapes and doodled a bit, but I didn’t like how I’d done the taped layers. The second layer uses tiny shapes but they should have been more even. so I want to try again.
Progress Notes
- The layers came out way better than its predecessor above. The shapes are more comprabable but still diverse and everything looks more balanced.
- Doing the lines was difficult as I couldn’t keep them perfectly straight or the same thickness, but I leaned into it and started adding more ink in corners to stylize the shapes.
- I’m not sure what color medium to use. Acrylic marker is a no go as they are opaque and I want transparency. I thought about watercolor and ink but both need a ton of water. There’s colored pencils and alcohol markers…both of which seem to be the best option to keep blending/transparency. I think alcohol marker works the best but I’m worried about it’s lightfastness.

Supplies
| Material | What I Used | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Paper | Canson Graduate Mixed Media Sketchbook | First piece finished in Doodle Bufonidae. |
| Pens & Inks | Pigma Microns - 0.3 | I used two pens that were already quite used and ended not only flattening the nib but almost running out of ink. Second half of art is darker than first. |
